``MuPAD is a computer algebra system which, up to now, has been developed
mainly at the University of Paderborn. Our aim was to design a program
that can handle mathematical problems and computations of a new order of
magnitude. Therefore, MuPAD was designed as a parallel system. However,
MuPAD also runs on sequential computers, from small size machines to
  high end workstations.''

MuPAD differs from other computer algebra systems like Maple [1], Mathe-
matica [2], Macsyma [3], Axiom [4] by four major points:

+ MuPAD is a system that offers a window-based user-interface (hypertext
on-line help, graphics and a source code-debugger) on all platforms, (*)

+ MuPAD is the first system that provides native parallel instructions to
  the user, (**)

+ MuPAD offers tools for the dynamical linking of binary code objects
and, last but not least, (***)

+ MuPAD is available free of charge for non-commercial institutions and
  private users.

This is the announcement of the availability of an ALPHA RELEASE VERSION
for the Amiga[5] line of computers. The Amiga version of MuPAD is currently
only available from the below listed distribution sites. It will not be
available through Aminet[6] (or other amiga software providers) yet, because

+ the Amiga version of MuPAD is still alpha release software

+ the Amiga version of MuPAD has still neither hypertext help nor
  the graphics

The Amiga version of MuPAD has the following system requirements:

+ MC68020 processor or higher, a Floating Point Unit (FPU)

+ a minimum of 4MB RAM

+ AmigaOS 2.04 or higher

This version of MuPAD was ported by Daniel Balster (dbalster@uni-paderborn.de)
using an Amiga 4000/040 running AmigaOS/NetBSD/MacOS and the following software:

+ GCC 2.7.0 (GNU C/C++ compiler and utilities)

+ Csh 5.48 (full featured *nix[7] like shell)

+ ixemul.library 42.0 (*nix-feature emulation library)

If you are interested in it, you have to use one of the below listed methods:

+ FTP: math-ftp.uni-paderborn.de/pub/MuPAD/
        math-ftp.uni-paderborn.de/pub/MuPAD/amiga/

+ WWW:	http://math-www.uni-paderborn.de/MuPAD/

The WebPages contain a more detailed discription of MuPAD, demos, faq,
a list of MuPAD ftp sites, a bibliography, latest news & infos and more ...

Because this version has no (complete) online documentation, you may need
further information about the MuPAD language. Please refer to the MuPAD
bibliography (http://math-www.uni-paderborn.de/MuPAD/BIB/).

----------------------------------------------------------------------

(*) The amiga version of MuPAD currently has only a shell-only user-
interface, limited on-line help (no hypertext!) and no graphics.

If there is a major request to have a full-featured Amiga version
of MuPAD, Daniel Balster will eventually continue his work on it.

(**) Protoypes exist for Sequent Symmetry and SunSPARC Multiprocessor
machines. We are also working on a distributed system for hetero-
      genoius networks.

(***) Support for dynamical linking is currently not compiled in the
      Amiga version of MuPAD
