Aminet note:

This is a 16 bit, 44.1khz stereo MPEG audio layer III file (i.e. CD
quality). Those of you without rocket propelled computers may have
a little trouble playing it :-/

The best MPEG audio software decoder available for the Amiga is
MPEGA (mus/play/mpega.lha) by Stephane Tavenard. If you're running
in a non doublescan mode, you won't be able to play at 44.1 khz.
Therefore, on a fast machine (e.g. 68060 etc) in these modes,
use the "-d 2" switch to divide the frequency to 22khz. It still sounds
OK, and has the advantage of realtime decode/playing.

If you're using a slow machine (i.e. a 68030 etc), then you will
probably need to decode to disk before playing. Beware! Unpacked,
this sample occupies approx. 45 megs of space. MPEGA can also manage
this for you, thus:

mpega -A helloworld.mp3 helloworld.aiff

To play the file back, you'll need play16 (mus/play/Play16_1.7.lha)
or similar.

The file itself was encoded on a PC, since the only compile of a
layer 3 capable encoder for the Amiga that I could find was CStar's,
which was compiled to use 6888x maths (even the 040 version, *doh!*),
and was worse than useless on the '60, spending 90% of the time in
supervisor traps. C'mon Stephane, how about it? :-)

--ORIGINAL README STARTS HERE--

#include <stdio.h>
void main()
{
  printf("hello, world\n");
}

This is my first attempt at making music "properly", with my
sparkly magic Roland MC-303. I've never really made noise
before, so this is something of a learning curve for me, and
partly an excercise at learning the sequencer and general control
layout.

It's really a sort of start-stop badly fitting jigsaw of fairly dull
staccato acidy techno. It's all a bit alieny and pointy, but as I
say, it's a bit experimental for me. I suppose it's the equivalent of
the mirrored sphere on a chequered floor raytraces that used to be so
common :)

Feel free to play it and ultra-high volume with a decent bassy setup,
since at least I got the bassdrum right (you have to love the 909
kit! :). It's copyright me, all built from the ground up, so in
the unlikely event of you actually liking it, you CAN'T HAVE IT!

Thanks make flying of these childrens at this peoples:

Tim for owning all sorts of strange instruments, and letting
me play with them in the first place.

Twinhead for advising me re: which synth to buy, and
talking me through the ROM hell.

U4ia for being a malcontent, and wantonly creative inna sonic stylee.
A lot of this is your fault, you bastard!

And of course Lisa, for keeping me sane, and being a seely creature.

"Meester Balfour, your legs are SOOOOOOOO swollen!"
